Always wanted to try pottery? This relaxed, hands-on course is perfect for adults with little or no experience. Over six weeks you’ll be guided through the basics of working with clay — from your very first throw on the wheel to glazing and finishing.

Each week you’ll build skills, gain confidence, and create your own unique pottery.

You’ll learn:

Preparing clay & centring on the wheel
Throwing simple cylinders and forms
Turning & refining leather-hard pots
Adding handles & simple decoration
Glazing & finishing techniques

Dates: Thursdays, 16th October – 20th November

(optional extra session 27th Nov for £30)

Time: 6:00pm – 8:00pm

Location: Glowing Earth Pottery Studio, 1502 Stratford Road, Birmingham, B28 9ET

Weekly Programme

Week 1 (Oct 16): Introduction & Basics
Studio tour, safety, learning stages of clay & centring. Hands-on practice & throwing your first cylinder.

Week 2 (Oct 23): Cylinders & Forms
Shaping walls evenly, exploring simple forms.

Week 3 (Oct 30): Turning
Refining leather-hard pieces. Optional extra throwing practice.

Week 4 (Nov 6): Handles & Decoration
Attaching handles, learning slip decoration.

Week 5 (Nov 13): Glazing & Finishing
Glazing bisque-fired pieces. Optional throwing time.

Week 6 (Nov 20): Open Studio & Wrap-Up
Finish, refine, or throw new pieces. Informal showcase.

Optional Week 7 (Nov 27): Extra Studio Session (£30)
Catch up or finish any outstanding work. Payable after the 6th session.

🧽 Please note: towards the end of each session we’ll do a bit of cleaning up together (pottery fairies don’t exist… yet!).
